La Sal Mountains


 
 

 
Descending on diorite, an igneous rock formed in the Tertiary Era and subsequently shattered by glacial action. The large dark groove in the distance, stretching to the right  is where the Colorado River has run since it was a stream gently meandering across the plains in Miocene times.
